For
Tom
Wings
of sound
unfold, soar high
on sonorous winds,
borne up by playful rhythms
and mighty chords
in a timeless symphony.
Slowly,
gently
they float down
and embrace us
with a tone
of pure love.
This
was your life –
music the language of your soul,
guitar your faithful companion.
You made magic
each time you touched the strings
bringing joy and perfection.
Until
a warm May evening
ripped your life apart.
Ten weeks – seventy days,
intensity, struggle and silence.
Playful ease,
unfailing belief in healing,
in life – also after this –
frustration at the creeping weakness,
diagnoses shifting as the sand.
You
showed strength and courage
and throughout it all
an overwhelming sweetness.
Your look direct and honest,
your eyes light as your mind.
You
left this world
at dawn's first birdsong
your task here done.
But your spirit is strong
turned towards new horizons
shimmering in the morning mist.
This
is our gift to you
in gratitude and love.
